Dr. Sekyeong Seong is recognized as an outstanding collaborative pianist. She has performed as a collaborative pianist for numerous students and faculty concerts at the Ohio State University. She has played a variety of keyboard instruments at concerts, conferences, and festivals for the Ohio State University Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra.
Sekyeong has assisted as a collaborative pianist for Ohio Christian University, Ohio Wesleyan University at the departments of Theatre & Dance and the Choral Art Society. The performance venues include the Chappelear Drama Center and Jemison Auditorium in Delaware, OH. She performed in the musical, “Mame,” an Opera Scene Concert, and John Rutter’s, “Gloria." Regarding her performance in "Gloria," Sekyeong stated, "I wanted to embody the musicality of many different orchestra parts into a unifying sound of a single instrument." Before moving to California in 2017, she also served as a collaborative pianist for the Columbus Women’s Chorus.
Sekyeong's chamber recital was a part of The Ohio State University classical music project (2013) presenting: orchestra, chamber ensemble, and instrumentalist and percussion ensemble performances. The chamber recital concluded with high acclaim, and was prominently featured on WOSU's Classical 101.1 radio station. Her piano trio performance was broadcast live on WOSU television.
““Her attractive and buoyant musicianship is far beyond the skills of the ordinary musician in this field. She has distinguished herself as an outstanding principal pianist for The Ohio State University Wind Symphony, which included performances for Pulitzer Prize winning composer Joseph Schwantner, at Cleveland’s renowned Severance Hall, and at Ohio’s Music Education Association Convention. Dr. Seong’s performance with The Ohio State University Wind Symphony was released in the recording Rest, on the Naxos recording label.”

““Dr. Seong’s piano techniques and sensitivity to the needs of ensemble singing significantly help The Columbus Women’s Chorus’s (CWC) during our rehearsals and performances. Her interpretative skills are evident in her ability to correctly portray different periods of classical, contemporary, and jazz-influenced music. This is vital for the collaborative pianist. Sekyeong’s distinguished professional career as a solo and collaborative pianist are beneficial to The Columbus Women Chorus, as her strong knowledge of music, artistic intelligence, compelling techniques, and distinguished expertise of piano performance go far beyond that of ordinary pianists. Sekyeong’s expertise and uncompromising skills are the must-haves for our vocalists.”

Seong/Wallace Duo
One particular highlight of Dr. Seong’s career was a series of ensemble performances with Dr. Shawn Wallace. The two formed as a group named the Wallace and Seong Duo and have toured the world, playing a vast repertoire that included M. Constant, F. Decruck, A. Desenclos, Pierro Max Dubois, Piet Swerts, some jazz-influenced compositions, including jazz improvisation, and other contemporary music.
Sekyeong and Wallace continue to work as an ensemble group. The Seong Wallace Duo will perform commissioned works and original compositions. The piece “Cadenza, Toccata and Improvisation for Saxophone and Piano” is one such original composition that fuses jazz and classical forms and performance practice.
““Although Dr. Seong originally trained as a classical pianist, her extraordinary ability in both classical and jazz music performance was very exceptional. Sekyeong’s piano performance is moving and phenomenal to listen to. Sekyeong and I have been performing together in a two person ensemble called, “The Seong Wallace Duo”. This ensemble plays very challenging repertoire for saxophone and piano. We are in the middle of a studio recording project that will yield a CD to be released in the spring of 2017. We also plan to perform nationally and internationally. Saxophone repertoire, especially for the pianist, requires a virtuoso caliber capability. In addition to traditional repertoire: Musique De Concert (Marius Constant), Sonata (Robert Muczynski), Prelude, Cadence et Finale (A. Desenclos), Sonata (Ferenande Decruck) & Aria (Eugene Bozza), we also premiere new works such as Cadenza, Toccata and Improvisation for Saxophone and Piano (Shawn Wallace) and a recently commissioned piece by composer Xian Wang. Sekyeong possesses a unique combination of musical skills that makes her uniquely qualified to be part of this musical collaboration.”
